Happy Update July 2001

I am very happy and proud to say that my baby has made it to **1 YEAR** seizure-free! :0) I am so happy and I hope to never ever see another seizure. I just wish that everyone could be so lucky to find the right meds for their kids or themselves. For Zach, Lamictal has been our miracle drug. He is still only on 50 mgs a day, which I'm told is a low dose. he also takes Clonazepam. He takes a 1/2 of a .5mg tablet of Clonazepam 3 times a day.

Zachery is really my true hero. He has taught me so very much in the past 3 years. Zach is such a fighter and I wish I could only be half as determined as he is. He is such a brave little boy who is very special and I wouldn't trade him for the world.

Just to let you know a little about Zach's development. He still doesn't really talk. He does say, "mom mom mom" alot, which makes my heart sing. :0) His newest thing is that he has learned to growl at you. LOL!! If you say, "Oooh, I hear a monster." He'll growl in response, so I know he understands. Our neuro still has no clue if he'll ever really be able to actually talk or not. He is doing alot better at his hand dexterity. He is now actually pushing buttons on toys by himself. He can actually pull down the lever of a See'N'Say, now.

As for the neuro thinking him as autistic, he does show alot of those features. He loves to stand in the middle of the room and go around in circles and close his eyes for about 10 minutes at a time. He doesn't even get dizzy and fall. He is also still obsessed with chewing on everything. We're trying to work on getting this helped, but it is very hard. We have been working on the sensory diet the O/T gave us for the summer as far as overstimulation. He seems to calm down some when we do this routine. Routine is VERY VERY important! His dad was on vacation a few weeks ago and let me tell you, Zach loved having his dad home, but naps were messed up and Zach was very moody. It took about a week afterwards to get him back on his regular schedule. Ok, so there is a much needed update on my baby. If you are a parent going through your storm, please never give up. I know it is very hard and my heart goes out to you. Roberta
