The Wonderful World of Thugs

After reading a great deal of manga one starts to wonder about Tokyo. One would think that the streets were just peopled with bands of thugs just waiting around for nice young girls to turn the corner, so that they could ravish them. Or if these tough guys were not doing that they were finding a convient store to harrass. Luckily for the young girls there also seems to be a large supply of young handsome or beautiful heroes hanging around waiting to save them. So here I am going to present some of the various skinheads of both anime and manga, ranging from the comical to the wretched.
Thugs of Ah My Goddess
In this story it happens to be Keichi's, the main character, group of, wel,l I guess they'd have to be called friends. This merry group of idiots run the Nekomi Tech and Auto Club. They barge into Keichi's house, lend him stuff and force him to do stuff.
Thugs of Sukeban Deka
These men fall under the evil catagory. They wait arround for Saki's friend to get off work so they can rape her. Luckily Saki's there with her trusty yo-yo to ward them off. Later Ayumi lends the thugs to her sister, so that she can hurt Junco, the afore said victim, a bit more. Hmm... I wonder if they hire themselves out...
Thugs of DNA2
This series wins for bands of wandering men in jeans and studded leather shirts, who carry blunt instruments. First there is the group hired by Ryuji to hurt Karine, Tomoko, inadvertently Ami and Junta. When the author gets bored of this group he moves onto a new one, which also beats Junta and molests Kotomi. Then there's the third group led by Mori. These again hurt Karine, Junta and Ami. Thug fest! Thug fest! Whoo-hoo!
Thugs of Tokyo Babylon
I'm not fond of the ones in this series since they really have no redeeming qualities. In volume two a group rapes this girl and no one comes to save her. What is nice is that in the short story that follows it there is another incident of a girl screaming for help and Hokuto saves the day. They did turn out to be government agents, but still, yay Hokuto!
Thugs of Short Program
This is a book of short stories, one of which is actually called short program. That particular story has a group of young bullies who go around sneering at weaker classmates. Another story has both the young and the old bullies. The older ones are the variety that go in and demand free drinks. They're also the cowardly type.
Thugs of Fushigi Yugi
These tough guys seem to always be around the corner with knives waiting for naive girls like Miyaka to appear. They alternatly want to hurt her, or sell her. Neither of which she is too thrilled about. This series has the best dressed thugs. They don't have black leather, funkey vest or anything else proclaiming what they are. They just look like your run of the mill fantasy Chinese male.
The thugs of Inu-Yasha
There are a wide variety of thugs in this series. They range from the feudal sort to the modern day kind. All meet sticky ends and want what the usual sewer rat wants.
The thugs of Shadow Lady
What would be a series without some handsome looking guys turning out to be kidnappers and rapist? Well for anyone who thinks so ShadowLady has a couple token thugs in its first graphic novel. The perfect plot device!
