Saki Hanajima is one of Tohru's best friends. Together with Arisa Uotani, they form a trio. To the rest of the student body she is feared. This is because she is a psychic who has the power to read electromagnetic waves and also to induce pain to others. She uses her powers sparingly, usually to protect her friends and teach people a lesson. She owes alot to Tohru and Arisa because they helped her get through Middle School when she arrived. Her brother Megumi cares alot for her and looks out for her often.
Hana-chan's life wasn't always this easy. When she was a child, she was teased as an outcast and labeled a witch. Her life was miserable, but she accepted it. When she met Tohru and Arisa, they forced her to change her negative opinion of herself and accept the fact that like all human beings she deserves happiness. Therefore, Hana always believes that only with the efforts of her friends was she able to have happiness.
Hana is naturally a person who cares for others, even above herself. Megumi alerted her to this fact by telling her that because she is so kind, he believes that there is someone in the world who will love her. Many times when Tohru is in trouble, Hana comes to comfort her out of instinct. So she was surprised when Tohru came to see her when she was feeling lonely, and Tohru told her how much she missed her and it made them both happy. The manga talks much more about Hana's life and has some chapters exclusively for her so go read it.
