An overall good guy, Yuki is very kind-hearted and helpful. Almost all the girls in his high school are completely obsessed with him (they call him the 'Prince of Kawaia High School). He avoids them, however, because he is cursed by the spirits of the Chinese Zodiac animals. Whenever a girl hugs him, or when he comes under a great deal of pressure he transforms into a rat. Ms. Tohru Honda meets him one day going to school, because she moved into the woods next to his house. When Yuki and Shigure see Tohru's terrible condition, the practically force her to stay in the house as their housekeeper. She grows to respect and appreciate Yuki's kindness and helpfulness. He tries his best to help those around him. It seems that there is almost no one that dislikes Yuki. How can you dislike such a nice, handsome, and friendly guy? There are deep secrets in the Sohma clan, and they are revealed little by little.
In the Chinese Zodiac, the king invited all the animals for a banquet. The rat out of jealousy tricks the cat by telling him it is the day afterwards. The cat thinks it is the day after, so sleeps awaiting that day. So that is why the cat is excluded, and it is all the rat's fault, right? Well, that conflict evolves into bitter hostility and hatred between Yuki and his cousin Kyo. As Yuki is the rat, Kyo is naturally the cat. They constantly bicker, argue, and even fight. Yuki also has problems with his older brother Ayame and for good reason. Ayame is a loud, obnoxious, vulgar guy. Yuki doesn't like how Ayame has little self control and constantly acts like a shameless pervert. I can see why Yuki dislikes Ayame. Ayame is also a bit bossy of Yuki, but the real situation is when Yuki was was a little kid, he looked for Ayame for help, and Ayame didn't help him and instead brushed him off. Yuki also is disliked by Akito, who is the head of the Sohma family. Akito is jealous of Yuki, because he can make so many friends and live a normal life being a kind, considerate person. Akito had tortured Yuki as a little kid, and Yuki is still scared of Akito.
On deeper observation of Yuki, one discovers that as all the other Sohmas, he is constantly blaming himself for his faults and can only see the bad side of himself. He things of himself as a hypocrite, being nice only because he wants people to like him. As we see later on, that is not the case because he sometimes helps people without these motives in mind. Yuki is naturally a very kind person. One thing which bothers him alot though is that fact that he cannot, at least in his eyes, be accepted by normal people for who he is. In that regard he is slightly jealous of Kyo. That and also Yuki wants to be away from Sohma family, while Kyo wants to become a member of it.
