6/16/00: YYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!! They finally spawned!!!!! It was pretty cool to watch them embrace again and again! I was very happy! There is quite a bit of eggs up in the nest! The female is now resting safly in her jar as the male (i guess i could call him father now) watches the eggs with a carfully eye making sure they all will hatch. I am glad he is not neglecting them like some first time fathers do. I will now watch and wait for 36 hours until the fry hatch. I am maintaining the temperature at 82 degress so they hatch at the right time. Well, I will keep you posted.
6/14/00: Today a kind of cool thing happened that I havn't seen. As you know I introduced the pair yesterday. When I woke up this morning I looked in the tank and there was no nest. I was hoping he would have had at least a few bubbles, but he didn't. So I went and played on the computer and then went to lunch. When I got back from lunch I ran to my room to see if there was any sort of a nest. There wasn't. So I decided to introduce the pair so the male would relise there was a female in the tank. After a few minutes they finally met up and the male start flaring and the female did the 45 degress thing with her head. I let the male chase her around for an hour. Then I put the female back in her kerosine lamp chimney. Now, only 3 hours later, the male has built a nest suitable for breeding!! That is the fastest time I have ever seen with my bettas! I will let them get some shut eye tonight so they will be ready for breeding tommorrow. I will post another entry tommorow on how the procedures went and how the pair is doing.-bettatime-
6/13/00: Today I introduced the male and female in their breeding quarters. It is exciting to see the male flare and see the female show off and flare right back. I think she is finally interested. My hopes are high to get them to breed within the next week or so. We will just have to see what happens.-bettatime-
6/11/00: Today we have put the male and female in there seperate tanks which is were they will live for the next 3 days while we wait for their breeding quarters to be ready.-bettatime-
5/29/00: The attempt to breed failed :(. But I am cleaning out the tank for another try. Now that it is summer I will be able to pay more attention to them and make sure they breed this time. So for today I am cleaning out the tank and preparing it for them.-bettatime-
5/14/00: The male has built one heck of a nest under the stirofoam cup! The nest is bulging out from underneath the cup! I plan to put them together today. I will tell you what happened on my next entry.-bettatime-
5/12/00: Today I finally got all the medications needed to breed bettas. It cost a lot but I am glad I have them all now. Today I put the pair in the new and clean breeding quarters (Fish tank). So far they are just getting used to it. I am watching the male right now as he flares at the female. She is well laden with eggs and as soon as he gets the nest built I will put them together. Hopefully sometime this weekend!-bettatime-
5/11/00: Hello all! This is our first journal entry so we will make it brief. Today I have set up the tank with all the need accesories and medications in it. Now I must let it set a day to let the water and the medications settle. All is going good so far! I will update this again when I put them together and maybe I will be able to post a picture of the male building the nest.-bettatime-
