Frequently Asked Questions

Well, pretty much every site worth its salt has an FAQ page, so I figured I might as well make one, too! Actually, though, it may be useful, since I do get a lot of the same sort of questions, and this may be a good place for me to get some other useful information out, too. Besides, people want site updates and this is a quick one I have the time to do at the moment. So I hope you enjoy it, and hey, you may learn something new!

Your site is so large and well-written that I'm sure you have millions of people visiting it daily and clamoring to e-mail you. What if I have a quick question or little comment I want to e-mail you? Will it just add one more e-mail to your already overflowing inbox and annoy you mightily?

No! I promise! Despite what you may think, I don't spend a lot of time promoting this site online, so not a lot of people ever visit it.

They don't?!?! How can I help rectify this horrible situation?

Well, if you have a site you can link to mine, or you can just let any of your Harry-Potter-loving friends know about this site. But I was trying to answer the question.

Sorry. The thought that some people may not have access to your sparkling commentary and witty rapport shocked me into interruption. Continue.

Thank you. As I was saying, I actually don't get as much e-mail as you might think, and I always enjoy hearing from people who have a response to something I've written on the site. Even if you disagree with it, I really would love to hear your opinion. And I promise I will write back to you! It may take a while at times, since I'm busy at the moment, but I promise I will, and you never have to worry about annoying me with an e-mail, no matter how seemingly insignificant your message may be. I love the pure knowledge that people are reading my site and care enough to respond. Thanks!

*(On a side note, if you write me an e-mail, please try to put "Harry Potter" or some clearly HP-related phrase in the subject line. If you're too vague (ie "Hey", "I was wondering", "Just a question", etc.) it starts sounding like the scary junk mail I would rather not open and I might just accidentally delete it without reading. Thanks!)*

You mentioned being busy. Why are you always so busy, and why don't you update this site more often?

As to why I'm always so busy, I really don't know. I always think that just around the corner, when I'm done with this paper or this project or this school year, a time will come when I have unlimited free time. But the problem, I think, is that whenever I have a bit of free time I fill it right back up, because I am entirely unused to having it and it feels strange to me. Plus there are just so many things I love to do! But if you have anything you'd like to see here, don't hesitate to e-mail me, as at the moment I've a few spare seconds to work on an idea if it strikes me as worthwhile. Otherwise updates will only be minor unless inspiration hits me or until something big happens in the HP world, like the next book coming out or some such thing.

What about the Harry Potter Adventure Game you keep promising us?

Well, this was a tough decision, but I don't think I'll be doing it. So sorry... Why not?!? you clamor! Well, you see, I'm off to college, at long last, and I have minor time this summer to pack and get ready to leave. And I certainly won't have time to do it once I'm up there. I'm very sorry, because I've put a lot of effort into it already, and I liked the idea. But to make it as cool as I wanted it would take a million years and so, well, I hope one day you will all forgive me!

When is the next book/movie coming out?

Book Five has now been released at long last, and the countdown begins to the release of Book Six!!! Unsurprisingly, as yet there is no indication of when we can expect the next book. I think after 870 long pages J. K. Rowling is taking a deserved break before even starting the next one. Judging from her past time lapses, it could be anywhere between one and three years before the next book is ready to be released. We'll know for sure, as with book five, at least two or three months beforehand, and probably, as with book five, not too long before that. It'll be a long wait, but we've always got predictions and speculations to tide us over until then. And fanfic, if that's your bent.

The third movie, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, (with new director Alfonso Cuaron replacing Chris Columbus) will, according to the official Warner Brothers movie website, not be released until June 4, 2004, and not mid-November 2003 as one might expect given the release dates of movies one and two. The reason I have been given for this, which is distinctly unsatisfactory, is that Warner Brothers is releasing the third and final in the Matrix trilogy, the Matrix Revolutions, this November, and does not want to potentially huge box office hits to compete. It seems to me that the audiences are rather separate, and that any overlap can't be too terribly harmful to the grosses of the two films, but I'm not in their Marketing Board, so... Unfortunately, it seems that's how it's going to be.

What will the next book be called?

Book Six has been rumored to be entitled Harry Potter and the Green Flame Torch (supposedly a torch that heals all good and kills all evil, but it sounds to me like that would be just too easy) and book 7 may be called Harry Potter and the Forest of Shadows, although I'm not sure I've seen this one confirmed anywhere (would this be the forbidden forest, or a new one?). But remember the titles often change as she writes the books: book 4 was, for quite some time, intended to be called Harry Potter and the Doomspell tournament, but during the writing of the book not only did the title change, so did the name of the tournament. So anything can happen.

Do you really think the Harry Potter books are sexist?

I get a lot of mail about this, and I love to hear people's opinions and responses to what I've got on the site, but I do want to make one thing clear: I don't think J. K. Rowling is sexist. Any sexism that appears in her books is, in my opinion, societally induced, and she has done a lot better than most books in that area. I'm simply trying to point out that even in as awesome a book as Harry Potter, written by a single mom for herself and her daughter, contains some gender unbalance.

Why are you so obsessed about people stealing your pages?

Well, it's happened a lot, especially with certain pages, which have been stolen by so many people that now I can't control their theft from my page because they're just as often stolen from people who steal them from me. For instance, you might recognize my Joke Rumors page... Luckily I have a reference to things and people only I know about, so I can prove they were originally mine. If you ever see this page elsewhere, ask the webmaster who Ariela is. Hm. Anyway, why do I care so much? Well, first of all I spent a lot of time thinking up and writing everything on this site, so it annoys me when people take it effortlessly. Also, they never give me credit or link back to my site, which is proper web etiquette if you use someone else's stuff. And finally, these people usually can't really write their way out of a paper bag, so they have a generally incoherent webpage, but occassional pages that are at least gramatically correct, I might even venture to say well-written, and they claim the credit for them. One person who I discovered had taken many of my pages, and even used the same site name as me, which is how I found him, and when I confronted him he said he wouldn't remove the pages because he made money every time someone clicked on his pages and my pages got a lot of clicks! Bottom line, just ask. I'm always happy to share my pages, but I want to know about it and get the credit I deserve, that's all. Thanks!

What is your position on the condemnation of the contemplation of the consummation of condensation of condimentation?

Actually, I commend the condemnation of the condemnation of the contemplation of the consummation of condensation of condimentation. Thanks for asking!

What on earth does that mean?

It makes sense... Condimentation is the art of condimenting. Condimenting is flavoring food through the use of condiments. Now stare intently, as Mrs. Creswell would say.
