Theater

Ah, the theatre. I truly love to act, hence my deep desire to play Hermione in the movie... In high school I wasn't able to be in many school plays due to Cross Country, but I was in Into the Woods freshman year as Little Red Riding Hood, and sophomore year played the Music Master in Moliere's Le Bourgeoise Gentillehomme, which did end up, miraculously and a week late, going up all right, I suppose. I was then Emily in our school's first production of Bang Bang You're Dead, a play about school shootings which is available royalty free here. Junior year I played Darlene in the Diviner's and the exiled Duchess in As You like It outside on the school's lawn in a strange warped version of the play wherein we switched several of the characters' genders, causing some questions to follow formerly innocent "your father loved my father"s to "your mother loved my father" and creating the possibility that the lovers Rosalind and Orlando are actually brother and sister.

Senior year I played Eleanor in Teach Me How To Cry, and just recently closed Snoopy, in which I played Sally Brown for what was unquestionably the most fun show of my high school career. I loved the part, and the cast was sooooo awesome, and I got to work with my best friend of ten years, who played Lucy, and we decorated our dressing room like there was no tomorrow and it was just generally great! Tons of fun! I'll put up a link to some photos from the show in a bit, so look back for that.

And now I'm at college (the greatest war ever... (Sorry, you know when you're doing a play and then you or somebody else says something that's very close to a line from that play and then you just start spouting off all the following lines and end up reciting the entire play? Well, maybe you don't. Anyway...that explains a lot of my randomness. My apologies.)) and majoring in theater at a very nice little liberal arts school with a suddenly burgeoning theater department which is expanding far faster than the school's single theater can handle, forcing us to perform in cafes, lounges, livingrooms, and the like, and an essentially constant string of one-act festivals of different sorts, many of them student-directed and even, occassionally, student-written.

So I'm involved in as much of that as they'll cast me in and I can logistically handle. And I'm getting into writing plays as well, which I've always been interested in but am finally having the time to actually consider, which is really cool. And of course I'm taking all sorts of theater classes on everything from acting to directing to theater history to scenic design... So yes, much, much theater in all its forms composes a large portion of my life these days. Which is glorious. If you're interested in knowing what exactly I'm up to in the theatrical realm at the moment, as well as in the rest of my life, you can check my webmistress news page for periodic updates.

Let's see, I am also majorly into musical theatre. People think I'm strange when they look at my CD collection, which includes RENT, Into the Woods, Little Shop of Horrors (a highly excellent play!), You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Cats, Once on This Island, Grease, and West Side Story. They are right. I constantly get weird looks (well, period) (ahem! (that is my self-image obsessed personality. the first voice was my absolute truth despite irrelevance personality. (that is my personality clarification personality (that is my personality clarification clarifi-- Ok, that's enough of that (my personality who cares about the logical flow of a sentence-- Which you are derailing in a fiery train crash of blood, gore, and frightened adjectives running for cover-- personality. goodness! I had better stop before they all try to take contro, at heylemme no! my turn to--stop biting me!OW!chill out you--and you, I'm sick of all your...

OK, that's enough. Let's just shut the door and leave them alone, eh?

P.S. I also used to do plays with my friend, Bonnie. We even had a theatre company called B B. Actually, we still do, but we haven't done a play in a while because she moved. we are working on one, though, if we ever get a chance to do it, and it's brilliant, as usual. Anyway, she explains our Theater Company more in her website, so you can read all about her, us, and lots of other stuff at Bonnie's Cool Website
