Voldemort's Wand
Ok, so here's something I have pondered over long and hard and have not been able to satisfactorily work out. Perhaps one of you can help me.
We have a pretty clear (although, it seems, alarmingly inaccurate in some editions) picture of the spells performed by Voldemort's wand from the time he killed the Potters until the time he and Harry battled at the end of book four. Ignoring, for the moment, the discussion of the erroneous order of Lily and James' emergences (which, if you're interested, is further discussed here), here we have it: Voldemort killed Lily and James. He killed Bertha Jorkins. He killed Frank Bryce. He performed the Crucio Curse. He killed Cedric. More Crucio. He made Wormtail's hand. More Crucio.
Simple enough. And we saw Voldemort kill Bryce, if only in a dream. We didn't see his next Crucio curse, but it could've been on anyone. We saw Cedric die, but, curiously, it was Wormtail who killed him, on Voldemort's orders. So we have to assume he was using Voldemort's wand at this point. Why? Didn't he have his own wand? Maybe not, maybe he lost it when he escaped from Sirius and disguised himself as Scabbers for so many years. (We don't, after all, know what an Animagus does with his or her wand.) Then, Wormtail uses a wand to light a fire. And he uses a wand in his incantation about bone of the father. Still Voldemort's wand? If so, why don't the ghosts of these spells show up?
Then, Voldemort is brought back to full body, and we see him perform the Crucio curse on Avery, one of his Death Eaters. Then he gives Wormtail a new hand. Then he performs the Crucio Curse on Harry, then the Imperio curse, then another Crucio, then another Imperio. This is all basically as shown by the wand, although we see no ghostly representation of the two Imperius curses.
But my biggest question is, what happened to Voldemort's wand between when he failed to kill Harry (this, too, we don't see in the Priori Incantatem) and when he killed Bryce? I don't see how, reduced to "less than spirit," he could have held onto his wand. (He says, in book four, that "I had no body, and every spell that might have helped me required the use of a wand....Surely, one of my faithful Death Eaters would come and perform the magic I could not, to restore me to a body...") The wand must have been left at the Potters'. Did Wormtail then retrieve it and keep it until he found his master again? How, then, did he manage to keep it the whole time he was masquerading as Scabbers? And then Voldemort broke all Bertha's Memory Spells, and that, too, we see no record of...
So basically, what happened to Voldemort's wand for the twelve years he was floating around in forests, and why don't we see record of many of the spells we knoe Voldemort did, and, while we're on the topic, what happened to Wormtail's wand, and what happens to the wands of Animagi in general when they become animals?
So that's a bunch of random questions. Got any theories, or further questions to add to these? E-mail me at dragonfyre52@hotmail.com!
