TV GUIDE INTERVIEWS BIG BIRD

TV Guide Interviews Big Bird

Big things were afoot in the Big Apple on the night of May 6: To Celebrate "Television Day in New York City," TV Guide threw a party honoring some of the city's big names in television. We asked Big Bird, the biggest star of all, to give his bird's-eye view.

TVG:"Did you have fun at the party?"
BB:"Oh, it was very thrilling. I had my wing around the mayor and around Susan Lucci. I'd never met her before."

TVG:"Were you up past your bedtime?"
BB:"A little. I'm usually sleepy by 8. But I don't get tired. I'm a big bird."

TVG:"What was your favorite part?"
BB:"I got to dance and sing "New York, New York." I'd never sung it before. I did part of it wrong, but nobody seemed to complain. New York is very forgiving."

TVG:"Congratulations on your award."
BB:"Thanks! Maria is keeping it on her mantle. She lives upstairs at 1-2-3 Sesame Street."

TVG:"How did you decide what to wear?"
BB:"Well, they said it was very, very dressy, so I wore my tuxedo. It's the only thing hanging in my closet besides my swimsuit. See, normally us birds don't wear anything but our feathers."

TVG:"Did you tie the bow tie?"
BB:"Oh, yes. I'm very good at tying things. I can even tie my shoes, but I don't wear them much."

TVG:"What else did you do?"
BB:
"I put on birdie cologne. It smells like flowers."

TVG:"You look very handsome."
BB:
"Oh, thank you. I think spring is a good season for me. My feathers have filled out nicely."
