Max enjoyed fishing and deep sea fishing. Max was admitted to the bar in 1916. He enlisted in the army on 9 Oct 1917 in New York City, Grade Private, #1909821, WWI. Laul (sp?) Sector 28 June 1918 to 6 Aug 1918; Marbache Sector 15 Aug 1918 to 11 Sept 1918 (France); St. Wihiel Offensive 12 Sept 1918 to 18 Sept 1918; Meuse Argousel Offensive 7 Oct 1918 to 31 Oct 1918. He received an honorable discharge from Signal Corps 328 Infantry, 82nd Division on 3 Jun 1919 for reason of a letter from the Adj. Gen. of the Army, dated 19 Nov 1918 (220.81 Camp Upton, NY Misc Div). Approved for Victory Medal with St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne Defense Sector. He was in good physical condition and had received no wounds while in service.
He was a wonderful and loving father and devoted husband. He worked with his father's 1st cousin, Max David Steuer in his law office, 17 John Street, for awhile. He sent his brother Harold to Law School. Later he opened his own law office. Harold came to work with him. After his first heart attack, he moved his family to Miami, Florida, due to his health problems. He returned to New York frequently, because he still had a law office there. His brother ran his law office for him. He died at his residence in Miami, FL of heart disease, at the age of 48.
