My Sitar

I guess I've always had a little fascination with the sitar. I can't really say I'm a fan of the music. I like it okay, but I don't understand it, and resources on the net about sitars and sitar music are so discouraging I'm surprised anyone would even be tempted to try it!

The sitar was always one of those instruments that was unreachable for me. First in a literal sense, living in northen Maine there isn't any Indian culture and therefore no instruments, and figuratively because in order to own a sitar I'd have to buy one on ebay for several hundred dollars with no guidance whatsoever.

In 2005 I lucked out and got this old one on ebay for about $125. I think it sold cheap because it had a repaired crack in the neck. Whoever fixed it was a true pro, as it's hard to find and certainly doesn't affect it. I re-strung it, took several hours, and I enjoy plinking away at it once in a great while, but in a very short while it gets pretty boring. Same old thing over and over.... which is merely a reflection on my ability to play it and my willingness to pursue it.

I have no idea who made it or when it was made, or even if it's considered a beginner's instrument or pro. All I know is, it's here and doesn't eat anything!
