Acanthoscurria geniculata is easily among my favorite tarantula species.The beauty and impressive size of these creatures is just striking. Positively striking. These specimens are also voracious eaters, and watching them feed can be quite enjoyable (um, if you have a healthy scientific interest in such things, that is). This gal's name was Parker. She died long before the recent Spider-Man movies were released though, so very few people realized that she was named after Peter Parker. |

It pains me to say this, but I don't recommend handling these lovely creatures. I've done it before, but I have to warn you... Other pet owners have told me that they have been prone to bite. Also, while I have never had any adverse reaction to their urticating hairs, others have assured me that they can be quite painfully irritating. | |
