Kalamazoo Tops Motor City 2-1 In Shootout
Fraser, MI – The Motor City Mechanics dropped a 2-1 shootout decision to the Kalamazoo Wings in front of a racous crowd at The Garage tonight.
Through much back and forth action, the Wings outshot the Mechanics 15-12 in the first period. Both Rod Branch and Chad Alban were solid in goal for for Motor City and Kalamazoo respectfully.
Less than three minutes into the second period, Gray Shaneberger broke a scoreless tie on assists from Yannick Carpentier and Mike Manley, giving the Wings a 1-0 lead. With six minutes remaining in the period, Mechanics defenseman Jason Reimers was unable to capitalize on a breakaway and the score remained 1-0 heading into the third period.
Dan Price tallied his second goal of the season to tie the game at one apiece. Jeff Goldie and Blair Manning assisted on the Mechanics goal. With the game tiedat one at the end of regulation, the Mechanics faced their second consecutive shootout. Goldie and Manning each scored in the 11 round shotout but Wings Shaneberger and Shaun Fisher with two shootout goals were able to give Kalamazoo a 2-1 shootout victory. In goal, Branch made 42 saves for the Mechanics.
The Mechanics will spend New Years Eve on the road playing against the Fort Wayne Komets. Tune in to the broadcast on 1310 AM WXDX beginning at 7:45 pm. Be sure to catch the first hockey action of 2005 at The Garage on Saturday, January 1st at 7:30 pm and Sunday, January 2nd at 5:00 pm when the Mechanics host the Kansas City Outlaws for a two game series.
