Mechanics Earn Point and Collect Teddy Bears!
Fraser, MI – The Motor City Mechanics earned one point over the weekend, raised money and collected stuffed animals for Children’s Hospital.
Friday, December 3rd vs. Fort Wayne 7-1, L: The Komets dominated early, scoring 5 goals in the first 15 minutes of the game. Mechanics defenseman Tim Laurila scored his first goal of the season to prevent the shut out midway through the third period. In goal, Rod Branch made 35 saves for the Mechanics.
Saturday, December 4th vs. Rockford 2-1, Shoot Out L: At the 13:43 mark of the first period, Dan Price brought the teddy bears onto the ice and gave the Mechanics a 1-0 lead on a power play goal. Three minutes later, the IceHogs answered on a power play goal of their own. Through a scoreless second and third period, the Mechanics and the IceHogs went to a shoot out. In round one, Joe Burton scored for the Mechanics and Cary Laylin notched one for Rockford. But it was Rod Aldoff who tallied one in the second round to give the IceHogs the 2-1 shoot out win.

Teddy Bear Toss and Jersey Auction to Benefit Children’s Hospital:

Saturday’s game featured a Teddy Bear Toss and Post-Game Jersey Auction, both events benefiting Children’s Hospital. Several hundred stuffed animals were collected during the first period after Dan Price scored for the Mechanics. And over $1,800 was raised when holiday jerseys were auctioned off following the game.

On The Road:

The Mechanics will hit the road for a game on Friday, December 10th in Fort Wayne. They return home to the Great Lakes Sports City Arena on Sunday, December 12th when the Mechanics host the Danbury Trashers for the first time this season.

Next Home Game:

The Mechanics will be at home on Sunday, December 12th to take on the Danbury Trashers for the first time this season. Game time is 7:30pm and will be broadcast on 1310 AM WXDX. Sunday’s game will feature holiday pucks to the first 500 fans, the magic of Misty Lee, Metro Detroit’s Promise Night and family night, which means fans can get 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs and 4 pops for only $44.

Mechanics right wing Joe Burton is only two points away from 1,000 career points. Burton has tallied 572 goals and 426 assists over 12 professional seasons, 11 of which he played with the Oklahoma City Blazers of the CHL. Burton’s most productive season came in 1997-98, when he notched 74 goals and 50 assists for 124 points. Currently, Burton has 7 goals and 6 assists this season with the Mechanics.
