MECHANICS DROP GENERALS
2/25/2005
Fraser, MI – The Motor City Mechanics earned a 3-2 victory in front of a sell out crowd that included Kid Rock and John Cusack tonight. Sean Avery picked up a goal and an assist, while rookie Matt Hunter tallied the game winner.
After a scoreless first period, the Mechanics dominated in the second, scoring three goals. Avery opened the scoring on the poweplay 8:58 into the second frame, drawing assists from Derian Hatcher and Chris Chelios. At 12:04, Bryan Smolinski scored his third goal as a Mechanic to boost Motor City’s lead to 2-0. Hunter found the back of the net less than a minute later, giving Motor City a 3-0 lead, and what would be the eventual game winner.
Bobby Kukulka scored on the powerplay early in the third period to put Flint on the board. Jim Duhart scored 15 minutes into the period to close the gap. Despite pulling netminder Dan McIntrye, the Generals were unable to muster enough offense to get past the Mechanics. In goal, McIntyre made 41 saves, while Rod Branch made 27 saves in goal for the Mechanics.
The Mechanics hit the road following tonight’s action and travel to Quad City for a game against the Mallards tomorrow night. On Sunday, Motor City hosts the Missouri River Otters at 5:00pm.
