Fraser, MI – The Motor City Mechanics scored a goal in each period to earn a 3-1 victory over the visiting Quad City Mallards this afternoon. Derian Hatcher scored his first goal as a Mechanic and rookie David Bonk collected three assists in the win.
Rookie Matt Hunter opened the scoring at 15:27 of the first period, giving Motor City a 1-0 lead on assists from Bonk and Joe Burton. The Mechanics kept Quad City off the board until the second period when Greg Barber found the back of the net on a shorthanded goal to even the game at one. All-Star defenseman Kevin Hansen, with assists from Burton and Bonk, scored at 12:36 of the second to give the Mechanics the 2-1 advantage.
Early in the third period, Hatcher netted his first UHL goal, on an assist from Bonk, increasing Motor City’s lead to two. The Mallards pulled netminder Jeff Reynaert in the final minutes in an attempt to even the score but were unable to muster the offense. The Mechanics held on for the 3-1 victory. This gives new head coach Steve Shannon his second win in four games. In goal, Cory Campbell made 22 saves for the Mechanics, while Reynaert stopped 31 shots between the pipes for Quad City.
The Mechanics hit the road to play the Port Huron Beacons on Friday, February 11th. Motor City hockey returns to The Garage on February 12th 7:30pm against Muskegon and February 13th when the Mechanics host the Beacons at 5:00pm.
