Motor City Hockey Nets 4-2 Victory Over Fort Wayne
Fort Wayne, IND – The Motor City Mechanics traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana tonight for their fourth meeting against the Komets this season. Heading into tonight’s contest, the Mechanics were 0-3 against top ranked Fort Wayne, having been outscored 15-1 in their previous three meetings. But Motor City came out on top tonight, beating one of the top teams in the league by a score of 4-2.
Dan Price opened the scoring early in the first period, netting a powerplay goal to give Motor City a 1-0 lead. Killing a penalty, newcomer Chris Gignac found the back of the net 5:32 into the first and Wade Paterson scored his second of the season on an even strength goal to give the Mechanics a 3-0 lead heading into the second period.
Fort Wayne fired 17 shots at Motor City netminder Rod Branch during the course of the second period but were unable to solve him. The Mechanics sent only five shots towards Kevin St. Pierre of the Komets and were also held scoreless in the second frame.
In the third period, Sean Venedam put Fort Wayne on the board at the midway point. The Komets came within one with five minutes remaining when Chris Grenville scored. Price tallied his second of the game, an empty netter, with twenty seconds to go to ensure the 4-2 win.
The Mechanics continue their road trip with a game in Kalamazoo tomorrow night at 7:30.
