Fraser, MI – Motor City Mechanics earned a solid victory 4-3 over the visiting Kalamazoo Wings tonight.
Rookie Matt Hunter opened up the scoring in the first period to give the Mechanics a 1-0 lead but the K-Wings Andrew Luciuk answered less than a minute later to tie the game. In the second period, Kyle Kos gave Motor City a 2-1 lead.
Taking a 2-1 advantage into the third period, newcomer Jeff Doyle increased the Mechanics lead to two when he scored on a two-on-one break, taking a feed from Rick Smith. Tim Krueckl and Tyson Turgeon each scored for Kalamazoo to tie the game at three. With 23 seconds remaining in the third period, Joe Burton found the back of the net for his 19th goal of the year to win the game.
In goal, Cory Campbell made 39 saves for the Mechanics. Joel Martin stopped 19 shots in net for the K-Wings.
The Mechanics travel to Flint on Wednesday for a game against the Generals before returning home to The Garage for a three game home stand. Join the Mechanics at home all next weekend when they host the Rockford IceHogs on Friday, February 4th at 7:30pm, the Kalamazoo Wings on Saturday at 7:30pm and the Quad City Mallards on Sunday at 5:00pm.
