Mechanics Earn 3 Points, Defeat Outlaws
Fraser, MI – Welcome 2005! The Motor City Mechanics wrapped up 2004 by earning a point in a shootout loss to Kalamazoo and suffering a loss in Fort Wayne on New Years Eve, before opening 2005 with a loss to Kansas City, followed by a win over the Outlaws.
Wednesday, December 29th vs. Kalamazoo 2-1 Shootout Loss:
Dan Price notched his second goal of the season, on assists from Jeff Goldie and Blair Manning to tie the game at one and send the Mechanics into their second consecutive shootout, their sixth of the season. Manning and Goldie each scored for the Mechanics in the shootout. Shaun Fisher and Gray Shaneberger each scored for the K-Wings. And in the 11th round of the shootout, Fisher notched his second for the win. Rod Branch was solid in net for Motor City, making 41 saves during regulation and helping the Mechanics earn the point.
Friday, December 31st @ Fort Wayne 5-0 Loss:
Top ranked Fort Wayne dominated, defeating the Mechanics 5-0 in front of a sold out crowd on New Years Eve. Jonathan Goodwin and P.C. Drouin each notched two goals in the shutout for the Komets.
Saturday, January 1st vs. Kansas City 5-2 Loss:
Despite taking a 2-0 lead after two periods of play on goals by Brad Cruikshank and Rick Smith, Kansas City dominated the third period, scoring five goals for the 5-2 win. The Outlaws converted on a two man advantage to come within one. Less than a minute later, Kansas City tallied another powerplay goal and just a minute after that, netted an even strength goal to take a 3-2 lead. Rod Branch was pulled in the final minute in an attempt to get the equalizer but the Outlaws chipped in two empty netters for the 5-2 win.
Sunday, January 2nd vs. Kansas City 3-1 WIN:
The Mechanics earned their first victory of 2005, led by captain Blair Manning who not only scored the game winning goal, but added two assists. Jeff Goldie netted a powerplay goal late in the first period to give Motor City a 1-0 lead. Manning tallied on the powerplay as well to go ahead 2-0. Mark Lee knocked one past Branch midway through the third to bring the Outlaws within one but Mechanics right winger Joe Burton fired one into an empty net to give Motor City the 3-1 victory.
UP NEXT:
The Mechanics will play their next three games at home in Fraser. On Friday, January 7th, Motor City will host top ranked Danbury for their second meeting of the season. Saturday, January 8th will feature division rival Port Huron and Sunday, January 9th the Mechanics will battle defending Colonial Cup Champs Muskegon. Friday and Saturday’s games begin at 7:30 pm, while Sunday’s game will begin at 5:00 pm. All three games will be broadcast on 1310 AM WXDX. Sunday is Kids Night at the Mechanics home game. All kids tickets are only $6.

The Motor City Mechanics and Bob Neugebauer Travel are giving away a trip for two to Las Vegas! When the Mechanics host the Port Huron Beacons on Saturday, January 8th, celebrate Elvis Presley’s birthday and through Chuck-A-Puck, you have a chance to win a trip for two to Vegas! Meet Sparky:
On Friday, January 7th, the Mechanics will introduce Sparky, the new mascot! Sparky will be on hand from now on to meet and greet fans and also to be the president of the Little Sparkplugs Kids Club!
