Motor City Drop 7-6 Shootout To Port Huron
Fraser, MI – The Motor City Mechanics battled back from a 4-0 first period deficit only to lose in a seven round shootout to the Port Huron Beacons.
Port Huron dominated the first period, scoring four goals, two on the powerplay, and outshooting the Mechanics 16-9. Joe Sewell and David Beauregard each tallied a goal and an assist in the first frame.
5:59 into the second period, right winger Joe Burton put the Mechanics on the board on assists from David Bonk and Kevin Hansen. On the powerplay, Bonk cut the Beacons lead to two. Port Huron answered, taking a 5-2 lead on a goal from Aaron Brand but Jeff Goldie found the back of the net for his 13th of the season to bring Motor City within two once again.
Beauregard notched his second of the game giving the Beacons a 6-3 advantage. The Mechanics dug themselves out of the hole once again collecting three powerplay goals in the third period to tie the game. Burton and Bonk each scored their second of the game, while newcomer Chris Gignac tallied his first with Motor City. Tied at six, Port Huron and Motor City played a seven round shootout. The Beacons Beauregard, Sewell and Trevor Edwards each scored in the shootout, while Blair Manning and Dan Price were the only scorers for Motor City.
Join the Mechanics at home tomorrow night when they host the defending Colonial Cup Champs Muskegon Fury. Game time is 5pm. Sunday night is Kids Night and all kids age 14 and under get in for only $6!
