THREE MECHANICS NET 5 POINTS EACH IN 6-1 WIN OVER BEACONS!

March 16, 2005 - Port Huron, MI – Led by a Sean Avery hat trick, the Motor City Mechanics trounced the struggling Port Huron Beacons 6-1 in Port Huron tonight. Avery, along with Jeff Doyle and Bryan Smolinski each notched five points in the Mechanics fourth consecutive win. This was the final match up between Port Huron and Motor City this season before the Beacons relocate to Roanoke, Virginia next season.
The Beacons opened the scoring early in the first period when Joe Sewell found the back of the net just 2:25 into the game. But the Mechanics answered with two quick power play goals, one from Avery and one from Doyle.
In the second period, Doyle scored his second of the night and Avery notched two more for the hat trick. Smolinski added a goal late in the second period boosting Motor City’s lead to 6-1.
The Mechanics held on to the five goal advantage through a scoreless third period to come away with the 6-1 win. In goal, Rod Branch made 38 saves for Motor City, while Daniel Barthiaume and Stu Dunn split time in net for the Beacons, combining for 32 saves. Avery (3g, 2a), Doyle (2g, 3a) and Smolinski (1g, 4a) each tallied five points for the Mechanics, a new franchise record. Chris Chelios, Derian Hatcher and Jason Reimers also added assists for the Mechanics. This was the Mechanics fourth consecutive win and third on the road.
The Mechanics are at home this weekend! On Friday, the Adirondack Frostbite are in town for a 7:30 game. The first 500 kids, ages 12 and under, into Friday’s game will receive free Blair Manning t-shirts courtesy of Miller Garages and 106.7 The Drive.
On Saturday night, let’s pack The Garage for a special TV event! UPN 50 will broadcast the game live. The Mechanics face off against the Richmond River Dogs at 7:30pm. Karen Newman will perform the National Anthem and the first 2,000 fans will receive pom poms courtesy of UPN and the Macomb Daily. The pom poms feature a coupon for $2.00 off your purchase of a ticket to the game on April 3rd.
Sunday’s 5:00pm game will feature the Muskegon Fury. Mary Kay and the Mechanics are gearing up for Pink At The Rink. The Mechanics will wear pink jerseys, which will be auctioned off following the game. The proceeds will benefit the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation for breast cancer research.
