GENERALS SURRENDER TO MECHANICS, BURGOYNE!

March 6, 2005 - Flint, MI – The Motor City Mechanics got goals from four different players this afternoon on their way to a 5-2 victory over the Flint Generals.
Mike Burgoyne scored his first career goal, a top shelf power play goal at 8:03 of the first period, to give the Mechanics a 1-0 lead. Two minutes later, Chis Gignac found himself staring at an open net and made the score 2-0. Bryan Smolinski increased the Mechanics lead to three at 13:11 of the first period, drawing assists from Joe Burton and Sean Avery.
Flint controlled the pace of the second period. John DiPace tallied a short handed goal and rookie standout Mike Kinnie scored one on the power play to bring the Generals within one. Early in the third period, Jeff Doyle shifted the momentum, scoring at the 1:11 mark and boosting the Mechanics lead to 4-2. Burgoyne scored his second of the game, another power play goal at 12:21 of the third period for the 5-2 final. Derian Hatcher collected two assists, while Smolinski had a goal and an assist.
The Mechanics hit the road for games in Kalamazoo on March 12th and Port Huron on March 16th. Motor City hockey returns to The Garage to host Adirondack, Richmond and Muskegon on March 18th, 19th and 20th. Tickets still remain for all three contests.
