Burton Nets Hat Trick in Mechanics Victory
Fraser, MI – The Motor City Mechanics avenged their 2-1 shootout loss from one week ago with a 4-2 win over the Quad City Mallards. Joe Burton led the charge with three goals on the evening in front of 1,847 fans at The Garage. The Mechanics also put an end to a nine game losing streak with tonight’s win.
Quad City opened the scoring at the 7:52 mark of the first period when Drew Otten took advantage of a shot-handed situation and put the puck past Mechanics netminder Rod Branch. The Mechanics evened the score at 11:41 on a power play goal by Joe Burton.
With the game tied at one, Burton netted his second of the evening to give the Mechanics a 2-1 lead with just over six minutes remaining in the period. Burton tallied his hat trick goal at the 16:05 mark to give the Mechanics a two goal lead. Jason Deskins found the back of the net 40 seconds later to bring the Mallards within one.
Matt Hunter lifted the Mechanics to a 4-2 lead on a nifty goal six minutes into the third period. The Mallards pulled goaltender Jeff Reynaert in the final minute of play in an attempt to even the score but the Mechanics held on for the 4-2 victory. In goal, Branch made 34 saves for the Mechanics, while Reynaert stopped 26 in net for the Mallards..
The Mechanics hit the road tomorrow to take on the Port Huron Beacons. On Sunday, Motor City Hockey returns to The Great Lakes Sports City Arena when the Mechanics host the Adirondack Frostbite at 7:30 pm.
Sunday’s game will be broadcast on 1310 AM WXDX beginning at 7:15pm. Saturday’s game will not be on the air.
