Mechanics Top Flint 5-3
Fraser, MI – The Motor City Mechanics earned their first win of the season with a 5-3 victory over the Flint Generals at the Great Lakes Sports City Arena tonight.
A fast paced first period saw five goals and just over 10 minutes in penalties as the Mechanics took a 3-2 lead. Three different players got on the board for Motor City, including new comer Jason Norrie and Assistant Captains Brad Cruikshank and Joe Burton. Mike Kinnie and John DiPance netted goals for the Generals.
The first fifteen minutes of the second period remained scoreless until Matt Hunter slipped one past Generals netminder Dan McIntyre to give the Mechanics a 4-2 lead, their largest lead of the season thus far.
Norrie notched his second goal of the evening, and the second power play goal of the game for the Mechanics at 5:38 of the third period. Kinnie scored his second of the evening to bring Flint within two at the 7:56 mark. With just over one minute remaining in the third, and a Generals power play, Flint pulled McIntyre for a two man advantage but the Mechanics held them off for their first win of the season
In goal, Branch made 26 saves for the Mechanics while McIntyre stopped 27 in net for the Generals. The Mechanics went 2/6 on the power play while they held Flint to 1/9.
The Mechanics play at home tomorrow night against the Rockford Ice Hogs. Game time is 7:30 pm. Saturday night is Red Wings fan appreciation night so all hockey fans in their winged wheel gear or showing a Red Wings ticket stub will receive $3 off their ticket. On Sunday, the Mechanics will host the Port Huron Beacons at 4:00 pm. All fans wearing Halloween costumes will get in free.
