Mechanics Drop 4-1 Decision to IceHogs
Fraser, MI – After an exciting 5-3 victory over Flint on Friday night, the Motor City Mechanics fell 4-1 to top ranked Rockford at the Great Lakes Sports City Arena in front of over 1100 fans.
Rockford took an early lead on a goal by Nathan Lutz but the Mechanics answered when Blair Manning was awarded a penalty shot half way through the period. Manning slipped the puck past IceHogs netminder Jeff Harvey for the equalizer and the first penalty shot goal in Mechanics history.
Jason Ralph scored a power play goal with just over four minutes remaining in the second period to lift Rockford to a 2-1 lead. J.F Dufour made it 3-1 with only five seconds left in the period after Mechanics defenseman Brandon Fleenor picked up a four minute penalty for high sticking.
The IceHogs scored one more on a shot by J.C. Ruid at the 15:17 mark of the third period for the 4-1 victory.
In goal, Branch made 35 saves for the Mechanics while Harvey stopped 33 in net for Rockford. The IceHogs improved to 5-1-1, while the Mechanics dropped to 1-6. Ruid picked up four points on the evening to lead the scoring.
The Mechanics finish up a three game home weekend tomorrow at 4:00 against the Port Huron Beacons. All fans wearing Halloween costumes will get in for half price.
