Goldie Nets Hat Trick In Mechanics Win
Fraser, MI – The Motor City Mechanics earned their second win of the season by a score of 6-2 over the Port Huron Beacons tonight at the Great Lakes Sports City Arena.
The Beacons opened up the scoring just 3:13 into the first period on a shot from Ian Jacobs. The Mechanics answered two minutes later when Jeff Goldie picked up his third goal of the season. With the score tied at one, Jason Norrie netted his third goal in three games to give the Mechanics the advantage at the 17:17 mark of the first.
Goldie netted his second of the night on a feed from Blair Manning to give the Mechanics a 3-1 advantage at 7:48 of the second period. Port Huron pulled within one when Malcolm MacMillan slipped the puck between the left post and Mechanics netminder Rod Branch for the goal. Manning gave the Mechanics a 4-2 lead three minutes later.
Chad Peck gave the Mechanics their first short handed goal in franchise history at the 10:29 mark of the third period to lift the team to a three goal lead. Goldie netted a hat trick with just over two minutes remaining in the game to give the Mechanics the 6-2 victory.
In goal, Branch made 29 saves for the Mechanics while Stu Dunn stopped 15 in net for the Beacons. The Mechanics went 2-1 during this Halloween weekend.
The Mechanics play at home next Friday at 7:30 pm against the Flint Generals.
