Fury Ice Mechanics 5-3
Muskegon, MI - The Motor City Mechanics followed up their inaugural game with a road loss against the Colonial Cup Champions Muskegon Fury. The Mechanics dropped a 5-3 decision to the Fury in front of 4,252 fans.
Muskegon took a 1-0 lead half way through the first period when Rustyn Dolyny fired the puck past a sprawling Rod Branch. The Mechanics tied the score at the 14:04 mark when Matt Hunter notched his first goal of the season. Evenly matched through one period of play, the Fury took a 9-8 advantage on shots on goal.
9:25 into the second period, Jeff Nelson put the Fury up 2-1 as he knocked the puck through traffic and into the Mechanics net. Five minutes later, Joe Burton tied the game for the Mechanics on an unassisted goal. Todd Robinson, David Ambler and Nelson all scored within a 56 second span to boost the Fury's lead to 5-2.
The Mechanics pulled within two on a goal from Brad Cruikshank with just over seven minutes remaining in the third period. Branch made 26 saves between the pipes for the Mechanics, while Brent Belecki knocked away 24 shots in goal for the Fury.
The Mechanics play the Kansas City Outlaws next Friday, October 22nd at 7:30 pm at the Great Lakes Sports City Arena in Fraser, MI.
