The Thumbs Up Pony Club was founded in 1995 to serve a need to provide a competent
teaching organization with a high standard of excellence and safety for young people
interested in learning correct horsemanship and riding in Michigan's "Thumb" region.
Originally TUPC was affiliated with the United States Pony Clubs, whose membership is
restricted to children under the age of 21. In 2000 we decided to drop our USPC affiliation
and open our membership to the many adults who wanted to learn and do "the same things
the kids are doing." Thumbs Up is now a riding club for the entire family!
Thumbs Up Pony Club members meet regularly for mounted and unmounted meetings,
clinics, and many other fun special activities such as our annual Halloween and Christmas parties.
We may arrange group lessons, Club ratings (using the USPC Standards), clinics, and other outings. Several members of the Thumbs Up Pony Club participate in equine activities
that range from Classical Dressage, Hunters, Show Jumping, and Driving, to Quadrille, Gymkhana,
and Tournament Sports such as Ring Jousting.
