The recomended eating plan from the AHA includes:

* Total fat intake should be less than 30 percent of calories

* Saturated fatty acid intake should be less than 10 percent

* Polyunsaturated fatty acid intake should be no more than 10 percent of calories

* Monounsaturated fatty acids make up the rest of the total fat intake, about 10 to 15 percent of total calories

* Cholesterol intake should be no more than 300 milligrams per day

* Sodium intake should be no more than 30,000 milligrams per day

Not only does a healthy diet help but regular moderate exercise, such as walking, will increase your body's fitness. If you are not exercising regularly you should at least start on a moderate wlking progran to get at least some exercise. When you're decide to start a walking program you should first consult your physician only he can tell you the recomended amount and what type of exercise is right for you. Finally, another way to prevent getting heart disease is to have your blood pressure and cholesterol checked by your physician.
