The following was found on the grave marker of Loy Annis who died April 27, 1922 in Colorado.

“Having loved gleaming silvery Stars,
I fear not the calm, Black velvet night,
for ever are flights of golden butter-flies wisp
guiding me toward the light.“

I have located the final resting places of many members of the Annis Family in the past few years, and it seems only proper that this information is shared with the extended family. I have listed the following burials by location and lineage so that it may be seen how the individuals mentioned in the records are related to the early colonist. In some cases there is doubt as to the relationship of the individuals and this will be noted also. Whenever possible the listings are in family group, that is, Father, Mother, Children.
My thanks to the many family members who have contributed information for this page. Some of the individuals are linked to further information about them at the the Annis Family in the United States and Canada site.

TABLE OF CONTENTS:

Annis-Littlefield Plot, Tasker Hill Cemetery, Madison, NH

The following direction to this cemetery were found in the Conway, NH library.
By way of Conway, go to the residence of Victor Staples in the Tasker Hill section of Madison (NH) which is on the Oak Hill road. Continue just a short way and leave your car beside the road. Walk along the road west, cross the brook and bear left at what is apparently an intersection or corner. Go south about three-quarter until you come to an entrance on the left which has four stone posts; about 25 yards this side and north of that entrance, turn off to west on old road about 50 yards and on left, on a knoll, there is a split stone enclosure about 30 foot square and about 3 foot tall. Unfortunately most of the stones here are laying flat on the ground and many were covered by dirt and leaves.

Beneath this stone, till Christ shall bid her rise
A sacred dear and a much loved friend lies
Yet cease to weep, his God, be calm and still
And bow in sweet submission to his will

David Annis was born circa 1753 at Rumford (now Concord), New Hampshire; died August 18, 1824 near Bath, New Hampshire; married circa 1776, Elizabeth Hunt at Hopkinton, New Hampshire, and had four children; married 2nd, circa 1785, Lois Hunt at Warner, New Hampshire, and had eight children.
David removed to Chelsea, Vermont before 1793, where he resided until 1797, at which time he located near Bath, New Hampshire. On October 11, 1800 he purchased about 100 acres of adjoining land at his existing farm at Bath from Benjamin Smith. He also purchased an additional tract of common land in Bath from Asa Porter on July 14, 1814. David continued to purchase several tracts of land at Bath in 1814, 1817, and 1819. He was buried in a graveyard near the "Narrows" at West Bath, New Hampshire, which was later turned into a quarry for the purpose of manufacturing bricks, and the headstones were scattered. David's farm was reportedly located at a point just below the cemetery. A rather extensive and informative genealogy on the descendants of David was written by Dr. John McNab Currier entitled, "DAVID ANNIS of Hopkinton and Bath New Hampshire. His lineage is: Daniel Annis 1711-1790; Abraham Annis 1668-1736; Cormac Annis 1638-1717

Robert's lineage is: Albert Leslie Annis, Albert M. Annis, James Annis, Samuel Annis, John Annis, Andrew Annis

His daughter, Pattie, furnished the photo and the following note:
"The attached is a picture of my dads resting place. He is buried in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, RI. It is a beautiful place. They just built a monument in the middle of the cemetery with 3 hugh walls that will have all the names on it. What a place on Memorial Day. There are Hugh American flags every 40 ft or so going into the cemetery and then every grave has a small flag on it for the weekend.
Sincerely, Pattie

Note: The little candy fish on the stone are from my 4 year old. He wanted to know if Papa liked to fish. He is named after my dad. Then he placed the fish there. Out of the mouth of babes!
