~ Royal Silk Arabians ~ Royal Beginnings Royal Silk Arabians began about 25 year ago with the birth of a beautiful mare - Zarefa Bint Exzel. I have been in love with horses since before I could walk. Unfortunately for my mother, I have never outgrown it. My Aunt raised Quarter horses, which is where I spent every free moment of my summer, weekends, and school breaks. Much to mother's dismay I loved to clean horse stalls and not my room. I rode barrel racing and rodeo horses as a child, graduated to Tennessee Walkers, Racking Horses, and Peruvian Paso's as a teenager. Like most young girls, my favorite books were the "King of the Wind", and Walter Farley's "The Black Stallion" series. I spent hours and hours dreaming of having an Arabian of my own one day. In 1978, I met Nancy Hardin and thus began a lifelong friendship with her & her wonderful stallion Exzel (*Exelsjor x Halleluiah Morning) truly one of the best *Exelsjor son's bred in the United States. In addition to being a three-quarters brother to Litigator, he was a rare jewel, a regal stallion, that combined the ethereal beauty of his sire - the great *Exelsjor - and all the presence and fire of his maternal grandsire the fabulous Fadjur. He has been the standard in which I have measured all other stallions. I will forever be grateful and blessed that Nancy allowed me to share Exzel's (aka. Papa) life. As my foundation mares I have been fortunate enough to own two of his beautiful daughters. My introduction to Spanish Arabians came at the Cow Palace in San Francisco where I first saw the unforgettable *Sidi Brahim. I feel in love with his huge Spanish eyes and wonderful disposition. When it came time to look for a stallion for my mares I looked for a straight Spanish colt to complement them. This led me to Challendon Arabians owned by Bill Normington and Priscilla Richardson, it was there that I first saw CA Acerito and was blown away by the quality of his get including CA Hermoso (a beautiful bay yearling then). When the Garbo daughter they had on lease from BruMarBa foaled a gray colt Priscilla called, we went up just to look but he had other plans and I walked away owner of one of the most beautiful straight Spanish stallions. CA Gracioso is a like painting of old comes to life and he stamps his get with the same beauty and wonderful Spanish disposition. ~ Milne Martinez ~ |
