In all Shirley Jacksons horror stories fear is used quite often. One example of using fear is "Charles". I Realized Charles was a nice Friendly person and a mean bully and had no respect for adults.In fact Charles was almost too nice to his classmates and parents."Hey mom guess what Charles did today, he threw a chair at the teacher, swore and punched her" isn't that what he did yesterday said the child's mom. In Shirley Jacksons early life her mom was so strict that her mom more less wanted Shirley Jackson to be perfect and different from the other students.Shirley was to be polite, caring, nice, and outstanding more than anyone else. When Shirley Jackson was away from her mother she had a mind of her own by drinking, smoking, and eating fat foods that made her extremely over weigh.(Lethem)
