• 28 Feb 1865, in Jackson, Jackson Co., Michigan: He mustered into service, and was sent to DeValls Bluff, Ark. Soon after his arrival there, "he contracted chronic diarrhea caused by exposure and improper diet." After a series of treatments, he was honorably discharged on 29 Jan 1865 for reasons of disability.

• 1880 census in Twp 14, Trego Co., Kansas: He is age 47, a farmer, born in N.Y., both parents born in Massachusetts. His wife Lizzie, age 44, was born in N.Y., both parents born in Rhode Island. Also present are two children: Henry, age 15, and Minnie, age 9.

• 29 Oct 1904, obituary published in Wakeeney, Trego Co., Kansas: "...Mr. Hodges was born in the state of New York, November 2, 1830. He remained in the state until 19 years of age when he moved to Michigan, and in his 21st year was married to Phylinda Huntoon, of Leslie, Michigan. Six children were born to this union, five of whom still survive their father. His wife died at Stanton, Michigan in 1871, and on January 15, 1874, he was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie Case, his present wife. In April of 1879 Mr. Hodges came to Western Kanses and settled in Graham county..."

• 1910: In 1874, three years after Philinda's death, Henry married Lizzie Case. Lizzie survived Henry, and died in 1910. Henry and Lizzie moved to Abeline Kansas in 1879, where Henry died in 1904, and Lizzie died in 1910. Lizzie's will listed the names of five step-children:
Mrs. Alice Milligan, age 55, a resident of Eugene Oregon
Homer R. Hodges, age 52, a resident of Green Bay, Wisc.
Mrs. Vie Hopkins, age 49, a resident of Falls City, Oregon
Henry O. Hodges, age 45, a resident of Central City, Colorado
Mrs. Minnie L. Woodward, age 39, a resident of Abiline, Kansas

• "Philinda married Henry Hodges. Their children were David, Romeo, Alice, Alvira, Minnie and Henry."

[Leslie Local Republican, 23 July 1936. Transcribed by Anne Szilagyi.]

• "Philinda married Henry Hodges of Eden. Their children were David, Romeo, Alice, Alvina, Minnie and Henry. Minnie will be remembered as a musician who often had large classes in and around here." It seems almost certain that Minnie cannot have been remembered in Leslie. She was born in 1871, about the same time that her mother died. Her father remarried in 1874 and moved to Kansas in 1879. Minnie was in her father's household in Kansas in 1880, and was present there at the death of her step-mother in 1910.
