Here Is No Why

Welcome to Here Is No Why, a little section of my webpage that’s dedicated to me and the various things I’m interested in.

My name’s Colin. Right now I’m in my last year at UCSD, which is a pretty great school for the most part. It’s pretty dead on the weekends, and the sports teams aren’t really big so school spirit is almost non-existent. But it’s a nice campus and a good place to learn. I’m majoring in communications, one of those liberal arts subjects that focuses on analyzing and understanding the world. It’s pretty interesting. And I’m minoring in vis arts – film and video, which mostly consists of classes where we watch obscure movies and then discuss them to death. But it has its upsides too, namely getting to watch lots of cool movies.

If you couldn’t already tell, I’m really into movies. I don’t really have a favorite genre, I just like stuff that’s actually good. You see Hollywood churn out so much crap nowadays and its always refreshing to see something that actually had some thought put into it. If I had to pick my favorite movies, I’d probably say Dogma, The Matrix, Pulp Fiction, Memento, and A Clockwork Orange, among others.

I like TV too. There’s not always a lot of good stuff on, but a few shows stand out. The Shield, 24, and CSI are all top-notch dramas. Scrubs and Arrested Development are definitely two of the best comedies on TV today. As far as animation goes, you gotta love Family Guy, the first 10 years of The Simpsons, and Adult Swim shows like Futurama and Aqua Teen Hunger Force. I guess my favorite channels would probably be Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, ESPN, Fox, and CNN.

I really love listening to music, mainly different variations of rock music. Really I can tolerate anything, except for all the mass produced pop and rap that MTV and radio stations play constantly. My all-time favorite band is the Smashing Pumpkins, and I also love Beck, Radiohead, The White Stripes, Gorillaz, and Queens of the Stone Age.

I like to keep track of news and politics. I used to be a registered Republican, but now I’m not affiliated with any political party. Going to college and being away from suburbia really gets you to open your eyes and look at the world in different ways. Plus the corruption and incompetence of the Bush administration has completely turned me away from the Republican party for the foreseeable future. I guess I might be considered liberal based on my political beliefs, but really I just think people should be treated fairly and we should do what’s best for the country as a whole, rather than just doing what’s profitable or good for an organization or political party. Helping the economy and fighting poverty would be a good place to start, but hey, what do I know.

I love sports. Baseball and football are my favorite sports. Despite the fact that I’m from Southern California, my favorite teams are from NorCal. San Francisco Giants and Oakland Raiders for life, baby. Basketball is good too, although I’m not into it as much. I don’t watch pro wrestling anymore, but go to websites to keep track of what’s going on.

Video games rule. My current system of choice is Playstation 2. I like sports games like MVP Baseball and the Madden series. Action games like the Grand Theft Auto series and Metal Gear Solid are also some of my favorites. Emulators for NES, SNES, and arcade games are pretty cool too. It’s funny how we used to we used to pay $70 for those games and now we can get all of them for free.

I’m a Christian, which I’m very proud of and thankful for. And also I’m very, very lazy. Kinda quiet, maybe a bit antisocial at times, but creative, and a pretty nice guy overall. I like hanging out with friends, watching TV & movies, listening to music, playing video games, doing computer stuff, going on AIM, and relaxing as much as possible. I’m not sure what I want to do after college, but I’d like to do something media-related. Maybe in production or editing, I dunno, we’ll see.

Hmm…I guess that’s about it for now. If you wanna know more about me, you can go to my page on myspace. Now go check out the rest of the site.
