Ecuatorian Armor

In 1972, obsolete american M3 light tanks (Stuart) and halftracks were replaced by light tank hunters and personnel carriers of the french AMX-13 family.Later in 1995, 64 T-55 were bought from former soviet republics. The configuration of this tank is unknown but it is most probably similar to the T-55A type, retaining the well proven Russian V-55 diesel engine. At the present, no official confirmation or anything in the form of press articles or pictures has been yet presented, arising doubts about the actual condition of the tanks or their final delivery.
Wheeled LCV tasks are performed by french AML and brazilean Cascavel II (some of them from ex-chilean army surplus) armored gun cars fitted with DEFA 90 mm guns and the reccon, patrol and internal security tasks rely on the Engesa EE-3 Jararaca armoured car (left).

Between 1990 and 2001, the obselete SOFAM powerpack was changed and a more reliable Deutz Diesel engine installed. A new french fire control system with laser rangefinder was also fitted.
