What is Project Goose?

What It Is...
Project Goose was designed to lift everyone's Workcamp spirit by bringing along a mascot that would allow everyone to be crazy and have fun. The mascots make for good conversation starters and help get people together even when they don't have to be. It didn't start out intentionally though.

The Story Behind The Goose...
My friend Jessica and I went to a friend's house and saw a stuffed easter duck that I mistakenly called a goose. (It was white and had a long neck and an orange bill, but I guess I was wrong.) I once saw a story on tv about a guy that stole a lady's ceramic garden frog and took it everywhere he went, taking pictures of it along the way. When he returned to town, he returned the frog along with the pictures he had taken to the lady. Because stealing is bad, and we were going to a christian camp, we asked if we could borrow it and she reluctantly agreed after some persuasion. Our youth group usually goes on a fun day when we go to workcamp and the year that we took the goose, which we dubbed Steve The Goose, went along with us everywhere we went. This included: walking in the busy streets of Chicago waving at random people while wearing pink leis and carrying a goose, also wearing its own pink lei, eating dinner at Ed Debevic's, a great restaurant, and taking pictures (sadly, not enough) at some of Chicago's landmarks. (You can see a select few of these in the Photo Gallery)When we reached workcamp, Steve The Goose was so popular- everyone wanted to hold him and people passing in the hallways would start calling his name. Because of this, we've decided to bring the whole mascot thing back to workcamp this year. So if you are attending the 2003 Sommerville, TN workcamp, get ready to meet Steve's friends.

So where's Steve?
Steve got so fat and lazy from the All-you-can-eat pellet, bread, SPAM and chocolate pudding buffet that he decided to send his mom's cousin's cousin's daughter's brother-in-law's second cousin twice removed, Stumpy the Moose from a far away galaxy to workcamp this year. Since Stumpy isn't as wild as Steve, Steve allowed him to bring his son Stumpy Jr. (who insists on being called Junior) and his friend Bubbles the fish because this year's theme had to do with fish and Bubbles is always looking for more fish friends (He thinks he's a moose.)

Ok, ok, so it didn't really happen that way...
Well, as it turns out, Stumpy and Stumpy Junior actually didn't get to go. First, we couldn't find Stumpy the Moose in Jessica's attic and we couldn't find anything good enough to replace a dancing Christmas Moose so we left without him. Stumpy jr. was camera shy and hid in the trailer that we tug along with our van on our way to Tennessee and so Steve the Goose, revived from his sleep, came and took their places along with Bubbles the Fish. But, nothing ever turns out the way you want it to, right? Well, all in all, Workcamp was great, even if there were a couple of things that didn't go as planned. Bubbles did get to meet tons of other fishes that were hung on the wall, and a real fish from Canada that a group brought. My pictures still aren't up yet, but while you're here, don't forget to visit our other links! And we're already planning for more fun for next year! We're going to Uniontown, PA! So watch out if you're either going or are from there since there's going to be tons of craziness!
