My Fancies & Whims

Hello to all my friends and guests, who have just surfed upon my Realm. I have created quite a few places where you can get to know me and my interests. These places are within my Realm. This is the 1st stop along the way, my main domain-which I hope to "master" someday (LOL). Try to visit all my lands to get a full picture of who I am & what I like...I will make changes and add to it as time progresses. Stay a bit and enjoy!! My Pool Adventures!--2000
I play in the APA Camel 8-Ball Pool League (Tues & Thurs nites) at Tom & Jerry's Sport's Bar & Molson 9-Ball League (Wed nite) at Julie's. I have ranking of 3 in 8-ball & 3 in 9-ball, which means I have to win 3 games before my opponent wins their ranked number of games.(i.e. A 5 has to win 5 games before I win 3.) A 2 is the lowest ranking. A 7 is the highest. To save time the teams adjust the rankings by lowering each player's rank "one" level. (i.e. a 5-3 race becomes a 4-2 race) Only a game against a 2 will keep the same rankings because a 2 can't be anything lower than a 2. In 9-ball a 1 is the lowest. In that I need 25 balls before my opponent gets their ball amount. The area below will contain my weekly pool updates & play-off updates
SHOOT TO THRILL-TUESDAY UPDATE-5/2001 WE FOLDED THIS SESSION! NOT ENOUGH SHOOTERS I joined another team called DEEZ NUTZ on Tuesdays....that's who I'll be talking about from now on...
UPDATE NEW TEAM: 5/22-We lost tonight 2-3. I lost my first game for these guys...I tried my best but the guy I shot was NOT a 2!! He could be a high 4 low 5 in my opinion. I think he was new and not firmly ranked yet. He whipped my a$$ 2 games straight! Barry & Phil kicked butt and Shawn and Mike lost too...Mike got it to the rubber though..almost....last week we didn't do well either but it was right before Regionals and these guys had qualified and nerves were there...we'll be on top soon! A Magic 8-Ball ???...

POOL JARGON 8 & 9-BALL--RULE OF 23
This rule is very important to know in our league, if your team or captain is unaware of it you may end up forfeiting the whole night to your opponent's team! There are usually 8 players on each roster. Each player is ranked according to skill. For example, I am a 3 (8-ball). The lowest is 2 and highest is 7. The logical conclusion would be to have all 7's on your roster-right? Well if you did you'd violate the "Rule of 23", BECAUSE 7 times 5=35...and you can ONLY have 23 as your totalled players' rankings at the end of the night(5 matches), or at any point during the match. So if you had all 7's you could only play 3 games before you'd run out of points. Then a 2 could play..but, you'd have to forfeit the last game! So, it's best to have low & high ranked players on your roster..We have a 3,5,6,4.2,2 & a 4. We rotate if possible when we play. IF you are playing and the opposing team goes over 23 on their call of a player-wait till their(or your) player has broken the rack and call it. They forfeit the whole night-EVEN IF THEY WON ALL THE MATCHES UP TO THAT POINT!! Hey, that 'rithmetic finally pays off, huh. (LOL)

WEDNESDAY NIGHT 9-BALL UPDATE-5/23/2001-OUR NEW TEAM "FEELING POOLISH"
We had abye week due to a team dropping. Last week we lost 45-55...I lost to a 4 by 3 balls! I was down 8-20 at one point but came back valiantly! I am a 4 in 9-ball now. More balls to sink! Shawn shot and won in a CLOSE one!! It was neck and neck all night except for Rob who lost badly..he tried but the SIXERS distracted him...what can ya do when your home team is in the ply-offs!!? GO SIXERS! CRACK!..

I AM DIVISION REP. FOR MY THURSDAY NIGHT LEAGUE
MY FORUM-RULE DISCUSSIONS I'VE ENCOUNTERED
MARKING THE 8-BALL:
In the Official Team Manual it states that to "win" the game you must (besides having pocketed all of your numerical balls) legally pocket the 8-ball in a properly marked pocket without scratching. To properly mark the pocket a coaster or some other reasonable marker (other than chalk) must be placed next to the pocket the 8-ball is intended to enter. Both teams may use the same marker and only one marker should be on the table. However, if more than one marker is on the table, as long as you clearly mark the pocket where you intend to pocket the 8-ball you have properly marked the pocket. If the marker is already at the intended pocket from a previous attempt or game, it is not necessary for you to touch it, pick it up or reposition it.
-----THE ANSWER CLARIFIED-Ideally, the question of whether the ball is properly marked would never come up "if the marker rests directly NEXT TO the pocket". However, when that is not the case, a good rule of thumb is would be to ask the question, "Can the OPPOSING player or team determine which pocket the shooter intends to pocket the 8-ball in"? If, common sense prevailing, it is not close enough to the intended pocket for that judgement to be made it would HAVE TO BE CONSIDERED to be IMPROPERLY MARKED. Also, if the opposing player has moved the marker the shooter must replace it again if it is necessary to mark a different pocket. Protests should be filed at the time of the match. I hope I have helped clarify this for you. Thank you for contacting the APA and for your continued participation in the League. -The APA Ruling

THURS. NITE UPDATE~BREAK STUFF-3/2001 next session....

9-BALL RULE HIGHLIGHTS:
Unlike some 9-ball games, in this one you must sink a certain number of points to win. 1 ball=1 point, except the 9=2. I am a 3, (in 9-ball) so I must sink 25 balls before my opponent sinks their number. No rank dropping like 8-ball. The game is done, even if you're in the middle of a rack, when the point goal is reached. If you don't touch the certain ball you're on then make rail contact/or sink it your opponent gets ball in hand anywhere. It is never behind the line-even on the break. If you scratch on the 9, it's spotted & ball-in-hand for your opponent, not loss of game. If you scratch on a ball, it's a dead ball-no points. You end up splitting 20 points a match. The ratio of balls dropped determines the point spread.

QUICK GOOD 8 & 9-BALL HIT RULES FYI...
To make a good hit you must hit your ball first, before any other balls-including the 8. THEN-IMPORTANT-another ball must hit a rail! (This includes the cue, 8, or rest of balls on the table.) IF you don't execute- 1)hit cue ball 2)hit your ball 3)a ball hits rail.. your opponent gets "ball-in-hand" ANYWHERE on the table. Seems easy, huh? Try it out, you must be able to execute quite a few banks shots to get to your ball if an opponent blocks you in.
