Welcome to the Northern Lakes Archaeological Society's homepage! We're glad you stopped by for a visit. Please come back often to
to see what new information we've posted.
Who We Are:
Our society is comprised of people from northern Minnesota and Wisconsin who share an interest in archaeology and anthropology. Our membership consists of professional and avocational archaeologists.
Where We Meet:
In order to reach the widest audience possible, the Society meets both in Wisconsin and Minnesota. During the past year we have met at the Superior Public Library in Superior, WI, the Archaeometry Laboratory of the University of Minnesota - Duluth on the Lower Campus, and at Lake Superior College. Check your newspaper, radio station or public access television station for location. Contact: Dore Stoessel - dstoess1@d.umn.edu by e-mail or Steve Mulholland at Archcenter@aol.com
When We Meet:
The Society meets on the third Monday of each month, September through May. A brief business meeting begins at 7:00 p.m., with our scheduled monthly program immediately following. All meetings are free, and the public is cordially invited to attend.
What We Do:
Our goal is to make the discipline of archaeology accessible and interesting to the general public. We sponsor monthly lectures on archaeological topics, from both the New and Old World. Recent lectures have covered Aztec and Mayan sites in Mexico; a history of the settlement of northwestern Wisconsin in the Maple/Brule area; an overview of the Fish Lake Dam site in the Reservoir Lakes Complex, St. Louis County, MN; and recent discoveries in the Eastern Egyptian Desert.
DULUTH - SUPERIOR ARCHAEOLOGY WEEK 2001
This year we will sponsor the seventh consecutive Duluth - Superior Archaeology Week, in conjunction with Minnesota and Wisconsin Archaeology Weeks. Please consult this site later this year as well as local newspapers, radio stations, or public access television station for further details about our Archaeology Week - 2001.
