Should we ban guns?
Guns. What do we do with them? Can we ban them and get rid of them? Not likely. The cat is out of the bag and it is impossible to get it back in unless you have a dictatorship that enforces new gun control laws as Hitler did once in power. It was done under the guise of "crime control." There are may things to concider on this subject. One is do we have a right to own a gun? If not, then we know that the violent criminals will always have them. Drugs are illegal, yet the amount of drugs in this country is on an ever increasing rise.
So if we ban guns, will that lower crime? There are no stats to show that this. Some people feel that because guns are used in a crime and that people are killed by them that we should ban them all. Well as we all know that cars are used in many crimes, and every year more and more people are killed by them. Every year there are many car chases resulting from escaping criminals take the lives of many innocent people including children. Is the answer found in banning all cars? Even if we did, the criminals would always find a way to get them. "Well if it saves one life, it's worth it." The police now use this catch phrase for every issue. Well how about we ban all cars and we could save millions of lives.
Banning all guns would be as useful as banning all alcohol as seen in the probabition era. To ban guns is to create a massive black market for criminals who would then use them on defenceless law abiding citizens. We would then be sitting ducks for all the violent criminals out there. What easy pickens we would be to them.
More and more we see home invaitions in the news where young criminals break down the door and beat the people half to death for their money and goods. What right does the government have in saying we can't have guns with out locks on them? Imagine having a locked firearm in the house when the door is broken down. By the time you scramble to find the key to unlock it, you are dead or your daughter is raped. Also the law states that you can not store ammunition near the firearm. Certainly we have a right to defend ourselves don't we? Well not with this government.
If we ban all guns, then criminal will move on to bombs which kill far more people at one time and can be made with simple household ingredients. We would end up like Ireland. They say that we should ban guns in order to save children from accidental death. What about all the children that die each year from drinking toxic cleaning solutions. Do we now ban them all?
If you hate guns and really want to do something about it, please don't enforce it through laws that will only make the criminals stronger and turn law abiding citizens into criminals. Start with your children. Teach them your views and your ways concerning firearms. People tend to want government to enact all kinds of suppressive laws to fix social problems that started in the home. If people sat down and talked with their children more, we wouldn't need oppressive laws.
