Paul Schilmoeller - Rhythmic guitar

¤What gets your creative juices flowin' to help you write a song?¤

For me to write lyrics, I need to be relaxed and I can't have things all chaotic around me. A good place for me that I like to write lyrics is outside, at night, when the sky is clear. Things just seem to be perfect then and things come to me.

¤What is your favorite style or technique to use when you are playing your instrument?¤

I like all styles for guitar, I'll play anything, really. My favorite though probably has to be reggae or funk just because it's easy to keep a beat to and I just like those styles of music.

¤How did you start playing guitar?¤

I started out playing the bass, but I was no good at it, and then my buddy Drew suggested that I play guitar instead. I bought a used one and started taking lessons. I really enjoyed it and it also helped that Casey and Tyler were really into guitar also and showed me a lot of helpful hints that helped me get better and things have just taken off from there.....

¤List some of your major influences¤

Well, to me 311 has probably been my biggest just because they've made such big underground success and they aren't selling out. They're music and lyrics always talk about positive things and their music has really made an impact on me.

Second would probably be the band. Things wouldn't be happening without them and I'm really having fun doing what we're doing and I'm hoping we can continue making music together for a long time.

My third influence would have to be Casey just cuz he was the one who showed me a lot about guitar and kept me interested in playing.

¤What kind of equipment do you use?¤

Ibanez Gio

Crate 115 watt amp w/ footswitch

Boss DS1 Distortion Peddle

Ibanez DE7 Delay/Echo Peddle

Morley wah wah

Fender strings

¤What's the best part of playing a concert for people?¤

For me, the best part of playing a concert is being able to see the crowd's reaction to our music and stage performance. Some shows are better than others but they're all worth it. It also feels good to know that all of our practicing pays off.

¤How do you prepare yourself before a concert?¤

I just like to hang out with friends and the rest of the band. It keeps me relaxed being able to talk to people and not have to just sit and think about the upcoming show. I like being able to be relaxed and then just go on stage and play our set without any worries or stress.

¤In a word, or less (which is practically impossible), how would you describe Unwaxed music?¤

To me I would describe our music as a mix of rock, jazz, and funk. Some people might say that we're Indie Rock, which I don't mind at all, but I'd like to think that we're a bit more than just Indie Rock. We're full of suprises, so you'll just have to keep listening to our music to find out what style we'll be playing next. Unpredictable.

¤Do you have a favorite of your songs?¤

Well, right now I'd have to say that Let Yourself Go is my favorite, but I guess I try not to pick favorites. I like them all.

¤What would you say has been your best experience with the band?¤

So far the best experience I've had with the band has been the show at The Quest. We hung out as a band all day long, and then went and performed a good show for a huge crowd. It felt good selling out all of our CD's too. That topped off the day.

¤What is your favorite animal?¤

I'd have to say the turkey, cuz it's a fun word to say.
