« FAMILY LORE »

From Herman Micka’s granddaughter:
“my grandfather’s name was Herman, who was a blacksmith in Carroll, Iowa. He had 7 brothers; he was kind and easy-going – a perfect foil for his fiery French wife, Mary Pross, who had fits every time my father came home with a black eye….quite often as I remember it. While my grandmother was wailing that my father would end up in jail for all his squabbles in the schoolyard, my grandfather would quietly take my father’s hand, walk him to the butcher shop for the best piece of steak in the place, and use it as a poultice for the black eye."

About some early Corbetts:
“Our family at this period, 1600’s, are living in a violent period in Northumberland’s past, the time of the Border Reivers or Moss Troopers. These were bands of robbers, rustlers etc. …as it seems likely that Corbetts rode with them.” -- Jim Corbett
