History

In the early 1990's Jay met Dan at a local 7-11 and later formed a band that was called "The Uglies." About a week later Dan thought that maybe they should use the name "Jack Kevorkian and the Suicide Machines."

In 1992 Bill Jennings became the drummer but sucked so bad that the band kicked him out. But he got to play a few gigs with them including one where the other members found a drummer that they would later replace him with, Derek Grant.

In 1993 the band released their first demo "The Essential Kevorkian Cassette," on a record label owned by Derek called Old School Records. They did some more small gigs and even opened for Rancid. The Vans 7" single was released on Youth rendition Records the same year.

Then in '94 the band broke up because Jason Brake left for Japan for some reason. While they still didn't have a band they released another album full of pre-recorded songs labeled "Green World," then discovered it wasn't cool to have an album with no band so they got back together with Dave Smith on bass and did a short west coast tour. Then Royce Nunley joined the band taking Smith's place, just in time to play a second concert with Rancid.

In 1995 the Suicide Machines became known after the release of "Skank for Brains," a double C.D. produced by Beach Records. Soon the local radio stations took notice and played their tunes.

In 1996 the Suicide Machines took their first step into major fame by releasing '"Destruction by Definition"" on Hollywood Records. Soon after, they were booked to play at the Vans Warped Tour, this would be their first national tour. They played with such bands as The Descendents, Rancid (again), Face to Face, and the specials.

Finally in '97 they gained much respect and many fans by touring the whole year. They also began recording their new album.

'98, Derek announced he would be leaving the band after they completed "Battle Hymns", their fourth album. Erin Pitman took his place as drummer.

'99, well right now they're getting songs together and rehearsing for their new album.
