Zeus
The Moors Valley Railway is situated just north of Ringwood,Hants on the Horton road off Ashley Heath roundabout. It is in the Moors Valley Country Park in a beautiful woodland setting. The railway was begun in 1985 and was opened in July 1986. The ride is about 1 mile in length and runs from Kingsmere Station, alongside Moors Lake, over the level crossing at Lakeside, through the first tunnel around the spiral which double loops the childrens playground and includes another 2 tunnels, then enters Lakeside Station where you can leave the train to visit the picnic area beside the lake.You can rejoin the train at Lakeside for the rest of your journey,on through another tunnel past the goodsyard and engine sheds to enter Kingsmere once again.You can buy tickets at either Lakeside or Kingsmere and join the train at either station.At Kingsmere there is the Railway shop which sells models by Hornby,Mainline,Dapol and many kits are available for the enthusiast, also you can buy gifts to remember your great day out.A kiosk is also open where you can buy hot and cold drinks, sandwiches etc.. |
Sapper
The engines (all coal fired) are many and varied and many were built on the site by the railway staff. All the staff are trained to a very high standard and are very helpful to your needs.The track is fully signalled to British Rail standards so as many as 6 trains could be operated at any given time. Most of the carriages are of the open type and most trains are of 8 carriages although at peak times there might be as many as 14.The aluminium track is set to the 7.25inch guage.Engine driver courses are available on site but please phone for details |
