Bert Langerwerf
"Captive Propagation of Lacertas"
Agama International Herpetological Institute, Inc. is the world's largest Water Dragon, Tegu, and Lacerta producer. It is owned by Bert and Hester Langerwerf. The have been breeding reptiles for three decades, concentrating on lizards, but also a few turtles and amphibians. Bert started keeping reptiles when he was in his early teens back in Holland. In 1985, the Langerwerfs moved to the Canary Islands off the coast of Morocco. There they built a reptile park for the tourists. After having traveled to New Zealand to explore the possibility of opening a park there, the Langerwerf family moved, in 1988, to Montevallo, Alabama.
