I was born at Deer Creek, Osage Co Mo. in my grandmother's home, and altho we moved away when I was 10, I always say I was born and raised there, why?..because it was home. My Aunts and Uncles, and Cousins of both my parents lived there..as I said "it was home". Maybe because the memories of growing up there are still strong. We visited frequently, spent summer vacations there growing up. It is full of memories good and bad..funerals, weddings, reunions and just plain ole week-end trips home because we were homesick. My dad probably gave us that closeness..anytime he made that trip he would say he "was going up home" and it came as natural to us as it was to him and as time went by and the older we got, the trips became less and less, and to talk to my Aunts and Uncles, and Cousins today is as if time has not passed, the closeness is still there because there is always a sense of belonging.

A lot has been done on the Shockley's, which has made the search an easier task then those who went before us, and with the internet the search for information and the amount of information found is almost overwhelming. The most recent research being a double volume done on the descendants of Richard Shockley and Elizabeth Adkins, Now, if someone would do a volume on family photo's..

I ran across this site and wanted to share it: Project Gutenberg is the brainchild of Michael Hart, who in 1971 decided that it would be a really good idea if lots of famous and important texts were freely available to everyone in the world. Since then, he has been joined by hundreds of volunteers who share his vision.
Now, more than thirty years later, Project Gutenberg has the following figures (as of November 8th 2002): 203 New eBooks released during October 2002, 1975 New eBooks produced in 2002 (they were 1240 in 2001) for a total of 6267 Total Project Gutenberg eBooks. 119 eBooks have been posted so far by Project Gutenberg of Australia.
