Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
This movie would be incredible except for its biggest drawback: the language. Due to the foreign language, subtitles are shown in English on the bottom of the screen. The problem with this is that at times, the movie can be fast paced, so watching the movie and reading subtitles at the same time proves to be difficult. As a result, the movie may tend to confuse people. For example, in the movie, scenes jump mainly between cities and the desert. At points, one character is shown in the desert, then all of a sudden that same character is back in the city. Between reading subtitles and watching these scenes, one may wonder what just happened, which proves to be the biggest setback of this movie. Yet I hear rumors that when the movie is released on DVD that it may be released in English, or have a special feature that allows the movie to be viewed in English, which would really help this movie be one of the greats that will be talked about for years and years to come. The special effects in this movie are incredible. And the best part about these special effects is that they look realistic. Many movies these days have computer generated special effects that look extremely fake. This movie, much like The Matrix, contains very realistic looking special effects. At the same time, the plot is quite interesting and well thought out. And if you want a movie with excitement, there are enough fight and chase scenes to keep you more than interested. Throw in great sound, a good moral, and personable characters, and this movie should be well worth your time.
