Carnage at the start saw R Schumacher, Raikkonen and Barrichello out, plus several other drivers who couldn't avoid the melee. We saw a race-long battle between M Schumacher and the two Renaults; Michael came out on top but suffered a tyre blow out and finished seventh. Out on his own, Montoya scored a totally dominant win.

As in Hockenheim a few years ago, a derranged spectator found his was onto the track which forced everyone into the pits and it was chaos. This lead to a muddled running order, and there were countless overtaking moves as the top drivers fought their way back to the front. Barrichello also gave us our seventh winner in 2003 - the first time this has been achieved since 1985.

Raikkonen looked set for victory until his engine blew, setting the scene for Michael Schumacher to gain an enormous title lead. However, the fast-charging Montoya caught the German up and passed him round the outside into Dunlop. The pair collided and Schumacher spun while Montoya scampered away scot-free.

Raikkonen blew his chances of staying ahead of M Schumacher in the title race when he spun off in qualifying. Starting from the back he only managed P6 after a number of incidents including a tyre blow-out. The Williams' lead early on, but Schumacher got ahead when Montoya spun and Ralf had some slow laps around his pit stop.

Jenson Button suffered a huge shunt on Saturday morning, which hospitalised him and caused him to miss the Monaco GP. Ralf Schumacher took a surprise pole, but his race pace was no match for his teammate Montoya who was on fire at the famous street circuit. The Colombian took a much needed win for Williams, while Raikkonen's Michelin tyres helped him beat M. Schumacher to second place.

Da Matta stalled his Toyota twice, causing two aborted starts. At take three the race was on and M Schumacher looked good for victory until he had a firey pit stop, having to wait for 20 seconds while the Ferrari crew extinguished the flames. New front man Montoya hit troubles soon afterwards, suffering a blown BMW motor. Schumacher put in some stunning laps before his second stop and emerged ahead of Raikkonen to take his third win in sucession.

Kimi Raikkonen went off in qualifying and had to start from the back, a penulty that proved fatal as he slammed into Pizzonia's stalled Jaguar at the race start and was out. Coulthard was out too, after 2 crashes and Alonso had a race-long battle with the 2 Ferrari drivers. Ralf Schumacher also seemed to hold up every car in the race, not least teammate Montoya who impressively passed the German. The second consecutive win for Michael Schumacher.

Ralf got the jump on the field at the start and proceeded to hold up the race in the opening stages. Brother Michael tried everything he knew to get past, but had to wait until the first round of pitstops to take the lead. Barrichello finally overtook R. Schumacher with a brilliant move on the exit of the Variante Bassa.

After eight laps behind the safety car the action finally got underway and it was havoc. Countless position changes amongst the leaders, Barrichello looked good for victory until he retired, Schumacher was out and in the wall. A huge crash caused the race to be stopped after 53 laps; Fisichella was in the lead and so took his maiden Grand Prix win.

Another crazy race. this time the chaos came at the start, with M. Schumacher tipping Trulli into a spin, with a chain reaction ensuing. With the lead Ferrari stuck in the midfield for most of the race, the battle for the lead was between Alonso, Raikkonen and Barrichello. The ice cool Fin made it two wins from two races for McLaren, putting himself 6 points clear of teammate Coulthard in the drivers standings.

An amazing, heartstopping start to the 2003 season. A damp track meant half the cars started on the wrong tyres, creating chaos in the pits and on the track. Then Barrichello smashed it up, leaving Raikkonen and M. Schumacher to have a huge battle for the lead. Schumacher looked good for victory until his car started to fall apart, handing Montoya P1. Then the Colombian spun his Williams and David Coulthard scooped the pot.
