    FATHER’S DAY
“THE FORGOTTEN FIRE”

  40 minutes.

Father’s Day June 17, 2001 started as any other day tour would for the FDNY. At 2:19 PM a telephone call to the Queens Dispatch office reported a fire in a store. At about the same time as the telephone alarm was being received Squad 288, taking up from a minor haz-mat incident in the area received a verbal alarm from a women reporting smoke from a store. As they arrived they reported the same and transmitted the 10-75 signal reporting a working fire. Conditions in the structure, a 2 story commercial on the first floor and dwelling above, began to worsen. A report from the chief on the scene indicated that there was “popping sounds” coming from the basement.
First came a small explosion followed almost immediately by a huge blast. All of the firefighters on scene were tossed, thrown, or knocked down by the explosion. Firefighters inside reported being lifted off the ground and hitting the ceiling. Our video begins shortly after this devastating explosion.
Where 3 of FDNY'S Bravest paid the Supreme Sacrifice.

                 TECHNICAL RESCUES

62 minutes.
Technical Rescues is comprised of 5 incidents where special units had to operate at what is, in my opinion, everyday occurrences that could and do happen anywhere in the country. The first is a very large underground tank being transported on a flat bed tractor trailer. The tank is wedged under a overpass and canter levered off the bed of the truck. The second is a worker who while operating a grappler machine pulls a large piece of concrete down onto his machine heavily pinning him. The third is a gasoline delivery tanker that was driven into a commercial garage and winds up in the basement. Fourth is a youngster who squeezed himself into a molded plastic playground swing seat designed for babies, and had to be cut out of it. The last is an overturned tractor trailer tanker transporting diesel fuel overturns on the Major Deegan Expressway. A large fuel spill, Haz-Mat mitigation and cleanup.
