Coyote Ugly **

DIR: David McNally CAST: Piper Perabo, John Goodman, Maria Bello, Adam Garcia

When Don Simpson died, Jerry Bruckheimer carried on in similar fashion, churning out big budget crap. But when Simpson was around, the movies weren't just bad, they were great trash which made them enjoyable. They even managed to come up with one of the most enjoyable movies of the eighties "Top Gun". With "Coyote Ugly", there is at least a slight trash factor.

The stunning Perabo is a small town girl who moves to the big city to make it as a songwriter. Of course she meets obstacles and takes a job at the title bar, a rowdy place where the bargirls dance in skimpy outfits and take the piss out of the male customers. It's as if the producers took the scripts of "Flashdance" and "Roadhouse" and mixed them in a blender. The script is the perfect three act Hollywood drama, with every incident happening exactly where it should. Perabo is trying to follow in the footsteps of her dead mother, just like Cruise in "Top Gun", but that's where the similarities end.

If Bruckheimer can bring back some of the naive charm of the Simpson days, that thrash classic could be just around the corner.
