Road Trip **

DIR: Todd Phillips CAST: Tom Green, Breckin Meyer, Sean W Scott, DJ Qualls

With the exception of "American Pie", the spate of so-called 'grossout' comedies of recent years have relied more on the grossing out than the comedy. Not to say "American Pie" was a laugh a minute, but it did have a certain charm. "Road Trip" does not. It expects us to laugh at situations like a guy shagging a fat girl. This isn't an amusing situation, it's a common occurence, in fact I have a friend who seems to live for it.

The plot is straight out of Kevin Reynold's excellent "Fandango", right down to the uptight geek who worries about his Dad's car being destroyed. If only it possessed an ounce of "Fandango"s charm.

The aforementioned geek is played by DJ Qualls, who, if he can avoid being typecast, could be one to watch in the future. The eighties teen movies that these recent efforts hark back to were always filled with wall to wall tits, an element that the new breed seem to have spurned. Thankfully "Road Trip" revives this tradition, making it almost bearable. Almost.
